Thoughts About...

I have always enjoyed updating the blog, but as time has gone by, particularly this year, it has been difficult to do so with the amount of things needed to get done in the day.  Without being able to BE on the blog as much, I also have lost some of the time I had before to READ the blogs I enjoy so much.  I feel like I've been missing out so I'm hoping to find a bit more time to check in on all of our friends.

When you spend more times away from the blog, there's always so much more to update on when you ARE on!

Thoughts about Easter...

We had a really nice Easter which was spent by going to church and being with family.  The kids looked particularly cute in their dressy clothes....

The Easter bunny came to visit and because of all of the Easter events in seeing the bunny, egg hunting and the like, it is a topic that has come up almost daily in this house.  Kailey seems to have a love/hate relationship with the bunny because she will often tell us excitedly that she gave the bunny a high-five, but then will often cry thinking that the bunny is lurking in the house somewhere.

Thoughts on friends...
We are really lucky to have some great friends that we spent time with over spring break.  It's always nice to see kids playing with each other without a care in the world!

Thoughts on progress...

Last year when we took the kids to the boardwalk, we could often force Colin to go on one ride and then he would be done.  Although he isn't really a "sensory" kid in the sense that a lot of things like sound, lights, noises, etc. bother him, he would have some difficulties because there was always a lot of people and high sounds, buzzers, bells, etc from all of the rides.  It's tradition on Easter weekend for the Point Pleasant boardwalk to offer deals on their ticket booklet, so I thought I would take a whirl over the weekend and take the kids there by myself.  Lo and behold, they both had a lot of fun and I was able to put them on numerous rides!  It's always rewarding to see how far kids can come!

Also, in terms of progress, we are trudging along in the potty training department.  I know we are going to be at this for a long time, but it's very difficult at times!  Generally, Colin does pretty well when he is on a schedule.  However, he still doesn't tell us when he has to go (or if he HAS gone) and it's not always consistent.  We try to stick to putting him on the potty once an hour, and sometimes he can go hours and stay dry, and other times he is wet within the hour!  I am sure one day it will just "click" but I am also hoping that time comes sooner than later!

Thoughts on adventure...

This is going to seem like such a silly thing, but when I took the kids to the zoo over break, I was really  happy just to see my kids walking around on their own going from animal to animal.  While Colin has been walking for just over a year now, it is still a proud moment when Colin can do things independently.

Thoughts on egg decorating...

Things always seem like a great idea when they are a mere thought, but when they are attempted, they don't always go as smoothly as expected.  The first egg I handed Colin, he literally squeezed it so hard (on purpose) that the egg just split in half and crumbled all over the place.  He was interested in decorating about 1-2 eggs (and also thought about sampling the dye) but Kailey REALLY enjoyed the process and had a fun time with it.

Thoughts on sibling relationships...

Colin and Kailey are the best of friends and at times, the worst of enemies.  This is certainly like any brother/sister relationship, however, it often amazes me how great they can play together at times, and then how much they can beat up on each other during others!  When they are friends, though, you can't help but smile when you watch them communicate together in their own ways.  They really look out for each other and we have caught a lot of loving moments between the 2 of them...

Thoughts on growth...

Both of the kids had checkups recently and we were amazed to see how much they have grown, even in the past 6 months.  It is most especially surprisingly when we have watched the scale change by only mere ounces through most of Colin's childhood.  He has made significant strides in the weight and height department in the past year.  Kailey and Colin differ by only 3 pounds and 2 inches!

Thoughts on these 2...

They. are. EXHAUSTING.

Great update Kelli! I love reading about how your two are doing! I know exactly what you mean about seeing Colin walk around and just do things that most kids his age are doing. And the rides-seeing the growth and maturity is amazing!

I have no doubt that Colin and Kailey are going to be the best of friends when they get older it just may take several or maybe a thousand fights before they get there;)
