Patience is a Virtue

Since Colin was born, one of the most important things we have learned is to take things one day at a time and to slow down. Try telling the girl who is Miss Impatient and likes things done when they are "supposed" to be that things won't happen as "planned" and you can imagine the anxiety it causes...

However, we have learned that despite what we may have thought should and would happen, things will happen when they are supposed to. When I thought it was time for Colin to sit, he did...when he was ready. When I wanted him to get in and out of sitting, he did...when he was strong enough. When I was near tears because he wasn't crawling yet and he was going back to school, he did...when it was time. When I was frustrated because instead of stacking blocks, he was knocking them down, he showed me that he could...in time.

You see the trend here? Colin is accomplishing all of the skills and goals we set out for him, when he is ready, when he has practiced them enough, and when he is strong enough. Sometimes, although we want something badly enough, we just have to wait until the time is right. Throw out time lines, throw out plans, and just take things one day at a time...

Today at developmental therapy, Colin practiced really hard pulling to stand...and look at what he did!

Tonight at dinner, after days and months of practice referring to body parts by us and his teacher Miss Stacey, Colin could point out body parts! We also can't forget the kiss just for YOU!

Way to go Colin. Oh my goodness, he is too cute for words! I too am Miss Impatient. It's been a hard lesson for me, that things will happen when they are ready, but such a great one. I have found that I am not so uptight anymore. And that's a good thing : )
