Mean, Horrible, Sad, Etc.

{sigh}

I received this email today from the National Down Syndrome Congress...I can not find the words to say exactly what I am feeling right now, but I'm sure the email will explain it well enough...

Dear Friend,

It is my unfortunate responsibility to advise you that the NDSC More Alike poster gallery has been raided by people who have been modifying the posters in an unsavory manner and reposting them on an internet blog. We believe that the person who started this unwarranted attack may have been someone directed to the site to vote for a friend's poster. If possible, we will identify that person and hold them accountable for their actions. The NDSC has requested that the site operator take the offensive material off line, but we cannot say at this time whether they will comply. We are investigating legal options and will continue to monitor the situation.

Unfortunately, there is no technical way to prevent this sort of image theft other than to not post it in the first place. That, of course, is exactly opposite of what we try to accomplish with our information and advocacy site. Nonetheless, we have taken down the poster gallery until this situation can be resolved. Once that occurs we will notify you. If you would like to have your poster removed from the gallery, please let us know and we will take care of it as quickly as possible.

Please accept our deepest regrets over this situation. Sadly, there are still mean people in the world. Sincerely,

David TollesonExecutive Director
National Down Syndrome Congress

Colin is beautiful, as is his name! I, too, am a mom of twin boys, one of which also happened to have an extra chromosome. Colin and Cameron are my 2 and 1/2 yr. old twin boys who I adore (Cam has the extra one!). I was looking forward to checking out some of the posters this evening when I read the very sad letter from the NDSC. I hope those nasty people are caught and punished! (and that's putting it nicely).

So sad that there are such mean people in this world! You can only pity them because they don't know what life is really about!! They just haven't learned to appreciate family and what it means to other people. Poor them! Love, Nana

I am sick after reading your post - I truly hope they figure out who did this. They must be a pretty unhappy person with an unhappy life. Karma is a...well, you know!

I hope that they can punish this person.

I am so terribly sorry that this happened to you and your precious Colin. He is absolutely gorgeous.....we have a gorgeous little man (Wyatt, 8 months) who also has Down syndrome.

We made a poster too. I feel sick, disgusted, angry and depressed. I just wanted to tell you that your son is beautiful. All of our children our beautiful and I can't comprehend the soul that would make fun of them.

Seriously though, does someone really have to do something like that in their spare time? Those people must live terrible lives. Makes me want to do REALLY mean things to them that I don't usually want to do to people.

How awful ... I really cannot believe someone would do something so horrible.

Kelli, I told you last night how I felt about this whole thing and it is just unfathomable!

To all the mommies and daddies out there that are blessed to have a baby with something extra...you ARE blessed and your lives and the lives of everyone around you are enriched! The people who committed these acts don't have the
privilege to be so lucky!

And yes, there is something to be said for karma...

We were bummed that we DIDN'T organize ourselves and have a poster made...how empty those lives are that must be filled up by bolstering their own self-esteem by attacking little squirts like ours.

Isn't it funny that we are so bombarded by the love they are missing by the little wonders they are trying to steal it from in such unsavory ways? So ironic that, if they chose to pursue loving any ONE of the kids they made fun of, their emptiness would be immediately filled.

P.S. We're such Colin junkies. I keep telling everyone there's a charismatic, chunky version of Jace out there. :0) So, of course, we find him INCREDIBLY handsome. I think we need a poster of Colin to hang above Jace's high chair as inspiration to keep those calories coming...

Since I first read about the voting being postponed, I haven't been able to react...and I guess that's because I just couldn't comprehend why anyone would ever do something so disgusting. I was truly left speechless, to say the least. But the reality is, the comments above are just so true....someone who would do such a hurtful thing is obviously a very empty person. They have no idea what life and love is all about, which is just extremely sad. You, on the other hand, exemplify those things. You have radiated life and love as long as I've known you... your loyalty to friends and family, love, kindness, thoughtfulness, and commitment to life and all it has to offer has flourished since you have met Chris, and most especially since the two of you brought amazing little Colin into this world.

I love you so much!!! xoxo
