I am looking to make some changes to the blog but don't have much understanding in how to do that. Is anyone able to make some suggestions as to where and how I could get some new designs to apply to the blog? I know it has to do with the Html codes (which I don't quite understand).

They have lots of free designs. All you have to do is copy and paste the code -- like you are adding a new gadget.
There are other free sites as well-- just can't think of them right now

You're in good hands with Adrienne... there are tons of sites that offer free backgrounds. You don't really have to mess with the HTML, you can add a background as a 'gadget'. Check out;

Just make sure to change the background, not the template, so you don't lose anything on your sidebar :)
