Stay Pooooossitive!

The title of this post needs to be sung in a sing-song type of voice while fighting the tears and frustrations. That was Chris' song at dinner tonight when we were dealing with a mess in so many ways as we try the first step of this feeding intervention.
As I mentioned yesterday, all of Colin's foods need to be pureed as we reteach the correct motor pattern of his tongue movement (the front and back movement) which I spent a LOT of time this evening doing. They also want us to introduce the foods separately again so he learns the taste of foods as they are alone and not mixed together as we have been doing so that he gets the nutrients. Colin has learned that he does NOT like us applying upward pressure on his chin after EVERY single bite and is now turning his head when he sees me coming with the spoon. I tried doing a singing count type thing which lasted all of 3 spoonfuls and then he was back to ignoring me again. On top of that, introducing new tastes? We need to be wearing a shield to protect us from the forceful spitting that is coming out of Colin's mouth. Pureed carrots? Nope. Pureed chicken? Noooooo. Pureed pastina? Only tolerable thing we offered tonight and he only ate half because he was sick. and. tired. of me directing his chin after every bite.
I know this is just day #1, but words can not describe how overwhelming this is. On one hand, we worry about the weight issues that some of the doctors have been addressing lately. On the other hand, we can't forgo the new technique because then we will set ourselves back even further. Just as we are learning this new life with two kids, we are learning this new life with new feeding techniques. I realized tonight that the pureeing part is easy, but getting your child to EAT the pureed foods is another story!
[sigh]
One foot. in front of. the other. We need to get back to THIS happy little boy at mealtimes...

Oh wow, I hope this smooths out for you soon.I can't believe that you're dealing with this on top of caring for a newborn. You really amaze me!

Testify, sister. Just know we are living vicariously through you. I even tried the @#$%&^ chin thing tonight. But Biggie ALWAYS turns from a spoon...hand on the face or not...so I was wearing peas and chicken up to my ARMPITS. No exaggeration. We're lucky, i suppose, not to have the weight concerns for Tank, but that's because he's still obsessively attached to his bottle and gets one twice a day. I feel like we're fattening him like a little veal.
If we're going to have twin non-eaters we should at least have twin bottles of wine in the fridge...

Hang in there!! Ugh, I am so sorry. :-( At least he's asserting (ahem) his opinions, for what it's worth... Albeit negative ones. I hope this passes soon, and that Little Mister discovers the joys of eating yummy foods.

LOVE is kinda messy in lots of ways - but the biggest motivator of ALL. Mommy and Daddy hearts are flexible with good intentions cause breakable is NOT an option - but a hug, snuggle or smile from Colin will keep you strong in your mission...You and Chris just have to tag team on the "stubborn and determined"...in this case two against one little cutie is a battle worth fighting..messy and all...Enjoy the weekend..and add some ice cream to the mushy meals...scruples don't count and bribery is the next level to aspire to:=)XXOO-Randy

I'm sorry to hear that it was so hard last night! This is certainly not an easy time for you with your newborn Kailey and I feel for you! I hope that Kailey is making life as easy on you as possible! I know that Sweet Pea HATED the hand on the chin and any of the oral motor stuff we used to try on her. I wish we had continued it, but we were weak and she fought so hard that we gave up. Now I need to start again at square one since it's been a year! Keep strong as it will be worth it in the end!!!! Good luck!!!! HUGS!

#2 - So glad we got to chat today!

And #3 - although I know this will be a challenge, I'm so proud of you and Chris for keeping "pooooositive" the way you always do! Especially with two little munchkins now. :)
